Clomipramide (Anafranil)

Anafranil is an oral antidepressant, which acts on the central nervous system increasing the concentration of serotonin. This medication is generic and can be found in pharmacies under the names Anafranil SR; Clo; Clomipran; Fenatil.

Indications

Mental depression; chronic pain; anury; phobia; obsessive compulsive syndrome; Panic Syndrome.

Side effects

Weight gain; increased appetite; dry mouth; constipation; difficulty urinating; nausea; nervousness; somnolence; sweating; tremors; fatigue; loss of appetite; dizziness; change in vision; indigestion; change in sexual desire; impotence; failure of ejaculation; Muscular contraction.

Contraindications

Pregnancy risk C; breast-feeding; during the acute recovery period after myocardial infarction; patient on MAOI; children under 5 years of age.

Mode of Use

Oral use

Adults

depression; obsessive compulsive syndrome; phobia: start with 25 mg, 3 times a day.
chronic pain: from 10 to 150 mg per day.
Panic syndrome: start with 10 mg once daily.

Children

5 to 7 years: start with 10 mg per day and increase the dose until reaching 20 mg per day.
8 to 14 years: start with 10 mg per day and increase the dose until reaching 20 to 50 mg per day.
over 14 years: starting at 10 mg per day and increasing the dose until reaching 50 mg per day.
